Toby Keith‘s daughter, Krystal Keith, gave a showstopping performance on Monday night at the tribute show for her father, Toby Keith: American Icon. Krystal performed “Don’t Let the Old Man In” during the tribute, which was the final song that Keith ever performed on television. The country star delivered his emotional rendition at the People’s Choice Country Awards last September. Keith originally wrote the song for Clint Eastwood’s film, The Mule. But he revealed that the song’s message of trying to hold off death took on a new meaning while he battled cancer. “
When I wrote it, I didn’t know that in the next few years that I was going to have to be looking those words square in the face,” Keith said during his final Taste of Country interview. Krystal’s stirring performance silenced everyone in the crowd at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. Other performers at Keith’s tribute show include Carrie Underwood, Jelly Roll, Lainey Wilson, Luke Bryan, Eric Church, and Brantley Gilbert. Toby Keith: American Icon will air on NBC on August 28 at 9 p.m. ET. (Taste of Country)
