Willie Nelson released his 76th album, The Last Leaf On the Tree, on Friday (November 1). In an interview with the Associated Press to promote his new record, the country legend took time to reflect on the recent loss of his beloved friend and collaborator, Kris Kristofferson, back on September 28. “He was a great songwriter,” Nelson said of the 88-year-old Kristofferson. “Kris was a great friend of mine. We just had a lot of fun together and made a lot of music together — videos, movies. I hated to lose him. That was a sad time.” The 91-year-old Nelson also lamented that he is the only one still alive from the outlaw country supergroup, the Highwaymen. “If you just take the music part of it and go back to, you know, Waylon (Jennings) and Kris and John(ny Cash) and, you know, all of us working together, the Highwaymen,” Nelson said. “And then I am the only one left. And that’s just not funny.” (Rolling Stone)
